Zora Booker

Dr. Zora Booker was a Black American physician, former resident and mentee of Logan Weston, and member of the MedGremlins. She later worked alongside Logan and other members of the group as a physician at WNPC Baltimore.

Medical Training and Career

Zora belonged to the MedGremlins with Kam Ali, Jaya Mitchell, Devon, and other physicians in Logan’s training and professional network. The group included both trainees and medical peers across different periods rather than one fixed residency cohort. Zora later joined the clinical staff at WNPC Baltimore.

She was quick to notice Kam’s growing attachment to Logan as a mentor. When Kam joined the group in the cafeteria after walking in with Logan, Zora teased him about bringing Logan coffee and called him Logan’s “intern son” after Logan acknowledged Kam with a raised cup. Her jokes were part of an affectionate group conversation, not a dismissal of Kam’s regard for him.

Mentorship and Professional Relationship with Logan Weston

Zora regarded Logan as the best mentor she had had. During his pain flares and other medical episodes, she helped secure food, monitored his condition, directed medical transport when needed, and worked with Kam and Jaya to keep him safe. In a small-group review, Logan answered a resident’s direct question about the extent of his chronic pain. Zora chewed the inside of her cheek while he spoke, then set down her cold brew before telling him that the group would handle it with him.

When Sabrina Graves filed a formal complaint about Logan’s tone, Zora and Jaya recognized the racial and professional dynamics immediately. As Black women physicians, both knew what it was to have their competence recast as aggression or poor tone. Zora went quiet and cold at the risk Sabrina’s complaint posed to Logan’s standing. She defended him to other trainees, rejected attempts to separate the complaint from race, and confronted Sabrina for weaponizing institutional professionalism against a Black physician. In the days after the complaint, she offered Logan a protective half-smile in the hallway, left a signed note about a neuro consult that also told him he was less frightening than he thought, and drew a small cane beside a resident-lounge whiteboard tribute to his teaching.

Personality and Communication

Zora was observant, organized, and protective. She color-coded her notes, usually carried cold brew, and used dry sarcasm in the MedGremlins’ group conversations. When angry, her delivery became quieter and more pointed rather than louder.
